– It is unbelievably sad. When someone travels from war and misery, they get to experience such a reality on a peaceful summer day. It is a completely incomprehensible situation. That’s what mayor Kjetil Torp (KrF) says in Vegårshei, where the girl lived. She had lived there with her family for half a year. The 18-year-old was knocked out when she was out swimming with her friends on Saturday evening. – This appears to be an accident with the worst possible outcome. The police have spoken to witnesses who were present when the incident occurred and this appears to be a pure accident while bathing, says police inspector Unni Guldberg in the Agder police district. She was retrieved from the water by divers from the fire service, but her life could not be saved. The 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The swimming area at Sandåkerhølen in Gjerstad has been closed since the accident. The municipality is working to get signs and lifebuoys in place. – We have started work on temporary signage and lifebuoys. We will open when it is in place, says Gjerstad mayor Steinar Pedersen (H).
