16 July 2024 at 19:00 Norwegian silver in the orienteering WC The Norwegian orienteer Jørgen Baklid won a silver during the final sprint in the orienteering WC. Several of the runners ran incorrectly at the end, which allowed Baklid to pass several athletes and sprint to the silver medal. It was his only race in this year’s WC. – Of course you always dream of a medal, and I knew it could be possible. But the fact that I actually have such a good day when it really comes down to it is just incredibly delicious, says Baklid in a press release. The Swiss Ricard Rancan took a surprising gold medal. It was Norway’s first individual medal in the orienteering WC held in Scotland. Baklid progressed to the final when he won the semi-final after his biggest competitors ran wrong. While Kasper Fosser called it quits in the semi-final after he led throughout the heat, but lost the sprint. For the ladies, both Victoria Hæstad Bjørnstad and Pia Vik lost in the semi-finals. Bjørnstad became the best Norwegian woman with her 7th place. On Sunday, Norway took bronze in the sprint relay with mixed teams, while Kasper Fosser failed to defend his WC gold earlier in the week.
