That we and the planet can perish, and that it is our fault, says film expert and associate professor at the University of Oslo, Jon Inge Faldalen. He is talking about the film “Twisters”, which had its US premiere this week and arrived in Norwegian cinemas on Thursday. In the new film, it is the fearless storm chasers Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones), Tyler Owens (Glen Powell) and Javi (Anthony Ramos) who try to tame and extinguish tornadoes in Oklahoma in the USA. – Hurricanes and tornadoes occur more often, we must be aware and empathetic. Category five requires the hurricane to have a speed of at least 135 knots. Director Lee Isac Chung says he was worried about what the world would look like when the film was released. I think there are more suitable genres. Film expert Faldalen says that disaster films that depict the world we live in can have an effect. – It can give some feelings of both shock and anxiety, which can contribute to action or a change in attitude, says Faldalen. At the same time, he is unsure whether “Twisters” and the disaster genre is a particularly good depiction of the challenges we face. – This genre has a very individual focus with the classic hero who has to solve things, preferably alone. Then structures and social actors disappear. I would guess that the documentary genre is better suited. Director Chung says that the film is not about climate-related challenges either. – I would say that the film is fundamentally about Kate Cooper and her emotional journey.
