– It was absolutely magical! – news Møre og Romsdal – Local news, TV and radio

There were many people who had to take out their mobile phones and take pictures late on Wednesday evening. Anne-Rita Klock in Hatlane in Ålesund often sits and looks at the view of the mountains and fjord. On Wednesday evening, she had just put down her knitting, and was sitting with her back to the living room window when she noticed that the light in the living room changed. When she turned she saw the rainbow. – It was so wonderful when it was reflected in the sea and there was no wind, she says. Anne-Rita Klock had to put down her knitting and go outside when she saw the light coming in the living room window at Hatlane in Ålesund. Harald Kjerstad had just finished watching the football match when his wife remarked that it was so wonderfully light outside. Kjerstad therefore stepped into his slippers and ran out through the road to look for the light. Harald Kjerstad captured this flash with his camera at Kjerstad on Lepsøya on Wednesday evening. Photo: Harald Kjerstad – It’s a bit funny when it strikes with such light. It was very special, he explains about the first light he saw. – It was a bit dark in the background, and then it rained a bit straight afterwards, he says. Photo: Therese Giske Søvik / Lesarbilete – Optimal conditions for seeing rainbows Charalampos Sarchosidis at the Meteorological Institute says that the conditions in Møre and Romsdal on Wednesday evening were optimal for seeing rainbows. To see a rainbow you have to have the sun behind you and the rain in front. Charalampos Sarchosidis is a state meteorologist. Photo: Private – Precipitation came from the south, at the same time it was fairly cloudless in the west, north-west direction, where the sun set. Therefore, you got the perfect combination of the sun shining and the sun’s rays hitting the raindrops in the rain that came from the south. – That’s why you got the beautiful rainbows that people in Møre and Romsdal saw yesterday, says Sarchosidis. In some of the pictures there are two rainbows. Two rainbows occur if the light is reflected twice inside the water droplets, Sarchosidis explains. A rainbow is a color phenomenon in the sky. On Wednesday, several people saw a double rainbow over Ålesund. Photo: Janne Brit Aasen / news – Occasionally you can get a secondary rainbow, i.e. a double rainbow. Another interesting thing is that the secondary rainbow will have the colors in reverse order, he says. The secondary rainbow has a weaker light, and it occurs more often if there are large raindrops. – With strong sunlight, the probability of seeing a double rainbow also increases, adds Sarchosidis. – Magical Silvia Midsund Klungland snapped this rainbow at sunset in Midsund on Wednesday. Photo: Silvia Misund Klungland / Tipster Silvia Midsund Klungland also sent in pictures of the rainbow and the sky that glowed in the area on Wednesday evening. – It was absolutely magical! It also lasted a very long time, says Silvia Midsund Klungland. Published 11.07.2024, at 10.03 Updated 11.07.2024, at 10.42
