She first became known when, in the first half of the 1970s, she was a member of the Trøndish folk rock band Isenkram, together with, among others, Fiskvik. Westvik played guitar and sang on the band’s only LP, which was released in 1974. Later, Westvik took the initiative for, and was the first editor for, the women’s radio station RadiOrakel from 1982 to 1984. Led Saturday entertainment Westvik became nationally known when in 1984 and 1985 she led news’s Saturday entertainment program “Saturday Circus”. Rita Westvik was program manager for “Lørdagsirkuset” in 1984/85. There she did, among other things, the first interview with A-ha and also met celebrities such as Frida from Abba and Boy George. – Rita Westvik was an innovator of Norwegian weekend entertainment in the 80s with programs such as “Lørdagskirkuset” and “På hengende håret”, says head of news’s entertainment department, Charlo Halvorsen. – She was a creative arrival and a new and colorful character in Norwegian TV rooms, he adds. Rita Westvik led the Norwegian final of Melodi Grand Prix in 1985: Here she introduces the winner Bobbysocks. He says that she was also for a time manager of several areas of news Radio, and was a caring and fun manager to work under. She was political adviser in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health 1993–1994 and then in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 1994–1996.
