In a press release, the Swedish security police write that they have arrested four people suspected of terrorist planning. The case concerns violent Islamist extremism, the press release states. At 1.55pm today, Swedish police received a report of an explosion in an assembly hall. After that, Swedish police carried out a police operation at several addresses in Tyresö, south of Stockholm. Several explosions are said to have been heard in connection with the police action. At 5 pm came the press release about the four arrested. – We have had several operations at various addresses and arrested four people suspected of preparing for terrorism and breaking the weapons law, says Adam Isaksson Samara of the Swedish Security Police (Säpo). They will now continue with the investigation, and they do not ignore the fact that several others are of interest to the police. No one is said to have been injured during the action. The police also informed Aftonbladet that it is not a dangerous situation for the public. The first report the police received was about an explosion in a room belonging to a Muslim association. Pictures from the city show that a window has been broken. A witness told P4 Sveriges Radio that they heard several “bangs”. – We couldn’t figure out what it was. And I said to my husband “what’s going on, what’s going on?”. It was terrible. Sweden’s Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer says the incident confirms that the terrorist threat to Sweden is high. Trond Hugubakken, communications director at PST, will not comment on the incident in Sweden. – The terrorist threat from extreme Islamists is assessed by us to be moderate in Norway, which means that it is possible that terrorist attacks could occur here as well. But the incident in Sweden does not affect the threat in Norway. – The fact that they have arrested people in Sweden has no consequence for the threat picture in Norway. We assess this every day, and if there are changes, we will immediately communicate this. Trond Hugubakken, communications director at PST, says the terrorist threat in Norway is unrelenting.
