4 March 2024 at 20:20 UN: – Reason to believe reports of sexual violence A group of UN experts say there is good reason to believe the reports that sexual violence, including rape, was committed during the Hamas attack on Israel on 7. October last year. The expert group, led by the UN’s special envoy for sexual violence in conflict areas, Pramila Patten, visited Israel in the period 29 January to 14 February to collect, analyze and verify information on sexual violence related to the 7 October attack. – Credible and detailed information, which indicates some forms of sexual violence, including genital mutilation, sexualized torture, or vicious, inhuman and degrading treatment, was also obtained, says the 24-page report which was submitted to the UN on Monday. Hamas has repeatedly denied allegations of sexual violence. (NTB)
