Fewer will become teachers and kindergarten teachers – news Møre og Romsdal – Local news, TV and radio

That fewer people are training as kindergarten teachers is bad news for Norlandia Hessa kindergarten in Ålesund. – It’s unbelievably sad, says educational manager at the kindergarten, Emilie Korsnes. For the kindergarten, struggle to get hold of qualified staff. Earlier this spring, they had a position open as an educational leader, then they received 2 applicants. At the same time, they advertised a position as an assistant, which received 14 applicants. In the coming years, it may become even more difficult to recruit people to work in the nursery. It can be demanding for the employees. – It’s awkward to be in the situation that we always need people at work, that we always have to have someone to look after us, that we always have to be alone with a group. It is very demanding for those of us who are at work. Korsnes hopes that more people will open their eyes to kindergarten education. – The education is great fun, and it’s nice to work in a nursery. – Looking gloomy The Pedagogical students in the Education Association believe that the number of students for teacher and kindergarten teacher training is a complete crisis. – These are bleak figures, the lowest number of applications for kindergarten education ever, says the leader of the teacher education students, Lars Syrrist. There have not been such low enrollment numbers since 2015 for the teacher training courses. And it is the children in the nursery that this will affect, says Syrrist. – There will be fewer kindergarten teachers in the kindergarten, and that is serious. He hopes that the government will now get on track and that they will show that they prioritize teacher training. We must constantly adapt and work systematically to improve the education, says Borten Moe. Borten Moe hopes to use experience from the past to reverse the trend in the kindergarten teaching profession. – We see that work has been done over time to increase the interest of primary school teachers from 1st to 7th grade. And that means that we may know a little more about what it takes to close. KINDERGARTEN TEACHER: Emilie Korsnes does not regret the choice to become a kindergarten teacher.
