– We are in defence, and there is a player very close behind me. Normally I wouldn’t react to that, but here he grabs my hips and presses my ass against him. This is what basketball player Helén Snø Greenwood told news, after the club she is playing team manager for, Kristiansand Pirates 1 in the senior series, met another team for a match last year. Pirates do not have their own women’s team, which means that Greenwood has chosen to play with men. In the match last year, the female basketball player was to experience what she refers to as sexual harassment, threats and hate crime. Just a few days after the match, she decided to file a police report at the local police station. The Norwegian Basketball Association quickly addressed the situation as soon as they heard about it, and launched an investigation into the matter. According to Greenwood, the case is still ongoing with the police. news has not been successful in getting an answer from the police regarding the status of the case. – I started playing basketball at the end of primary school. Photo: Privat Does not find documentation The association has not found documentation that several of the alleged incidents have occurred in its investigation of the case. “The investigations have revealed that there has been a derogatory call from the stands, aimed at one particular player. This call is very deplorable behavior that is not accepted. The incident was reported to NBBF and will be taken up with the organizing club” “Furthermore, the conclusion is that it has not been documented that the alleged incidents of violence, threats and sexual harassment have taken place. NBBF will therefore not pursue this further”. When Greenwood was allowed to read the report, she reacted with frustration at not being believed. – You can’t trust the association. You cannot trust the referees or the coaches. Sorry. It is very sad, but as of today it is completely clear and obvious. It is a huge mistake that they believe that the events never took place. According to Greenwood, several people on her team were surprised by how hard it was. During the break, she decided to go to the coach of the opposing team to tell her. Here she explains that the trainer just turned around and asked her to get away from his zone. – My teammates tried to stop them by saying they had to calm down. Then she says that they were met with a simple: “Shut the fuck up”. news has been in contact with the coach, who does not want to comment on the matter. Left the secretariat Former national team player and current Pirates player, Jakob Baiden, sat in the secretariat during the match. In protest, he decided to leave the station during the match because he could not vouch for what happened out on the pitch. – What I saw was that the players on the other team were unnecessarily physically ugly with him. It was unnecessary. They were so much bigger and stronger than her. It was also unnecessary because they led by so many points the whole match, says Baiden. Out of consideration for the investigation of the case, the union would not comment at first. Just before the New Year, the aforementioned report came out. The final conclusion, in which the association has not found documentation for several of Greenwood’s and Baiden’s experiences, has made them both very frustrated. Baiden was so dissatisfied with both what came out in the final report from the union and how they have handled the case, that he decided to write a long and open letter to the union on Facebook, where he wrote this, among other things: “I have had to reconsider whether I think it is justifiable to encourage others to take part in our sport, whether I think it is justifiable to invite players to matches where they can be exposed to gross abuse without any form of consequence or accommodation.” – I see the Norwegian Basketball Association as cowards, says Greenwood. The union, for its part, stands by its position that no evidence has been found that the incidents should have taken place, and is adamant that they have carried out a thorough investigation of the case.
