On the night of Monday, a fire broke out at Nordkjosbotn school in Troms. The police first reported the fire at 00:40. – It was an automatic fire alarm. The smoke now rises straight up and blows out over the fjord. Balsfjord municipality was notified shortly after the police received a report about the fire, the police write on X. The night’s fire was the second in less than a week at the school. Councilor in Balsfjord, Øyvind Korsberg, tells news’s reporter in Balsfjord that the municipality has set up a crisis team after last night’s incident. Parts of the building salvaged It has been reported that as much as two-thirds of the building mass is totally damaged, says operations manager Per Arve Aas to news. – It’s a serious fire when so much building material has been lost, says Aas, and states that they still don’t know how the fire started. Thomsen states that the fire started in what is described as the secondary school wing of the school, and that the fire service has managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the other side of the school. – Is there damage to the other wing? – There are no injuries there. Aas states that on the night of Monday it was reported that two thirds of the building stock was designated as total damage. – Absolutely everything inside is burnt away. This is the second fire incident at the school in less than a week. On Wednesday, the police and fire brigade responded to a report that some clothes were on fire inside the school building. The extent of the fire was described as small by operations manager Lennart Steffensen. The police do not rule out that this fire could also be arson. – Now there will be both a tactical and technical investigation in the near future and in the future, says Aas. He thanks the fire brigade for their efforts. – The most important thing for us was to clarify that there was no danger to life and health, nor was it necessary to evacuate employees at the school, he says. The school has 128 pupils from 1st to 10th grade and around 40 employees. There will be no classes for the pupils on Monday, and the municipality is now working to find alternative premises they can use in the future.
