The documentary is based on the Norwegian gamer Mats Steen, who died of muscle disease aged 25. When news told the story of his content-rich digital life in 2019, it broke all traffic records on news.no and received both national and international attention. The story was also translated and published by the BBC. The documentary recreates the life of Mat’s avatar “Ibelin” in the gaming world, and is produced by Medieoperaterene and Ingvil Giske. The Sundance Film Festival is the largest independent film festival in the United States, and celebrates 40 years in January.
