Aftenposten recently reported that employees of the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority have been dissatisfied with the management for a long time. Several employees therefore submitted a notice to the Ministry of Labor and Equality. Today it became clear that Trude Vollheim is stepping down from her position as director. Vollheim does not recognize the criticism from the employees. – Although I generally do not recognize myself in the portrayal of the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority that is given in the notice and the media, out of consideration for all managers and employees, I will now resign so that the agency can hopefully have peace of mind to concentrate on the important societal mission that the agency has, Vollheim writes in a press release from the supervisory authority. Aftenposten writes that the employees have criticized both Trude Vollheim and the rest of the management. According to the newspaper, there must also be talk of “several actual violations” of the Working Environment Act. When news tries to contact Vollheim for more questions, she refers to the press release. Ronny Jørgenvåg is now acting director, and emphasizes that they take the warning seriously. – It is important for us to help clarify the matter as best we can and contribute to an orderly process going forward. Until the ministry has given its feedback, I cannot say anything more about the matter, says Jørgenvåg. – Is aware of the notice Labor and Inclusion Minister Tonje Brenna (Ap) says registers that Vollheim has chosen to withdraw from the position. – The ministry is aware of the notice, but it is the director himself who has chosen to resign. I respect that, confirms Brenna. She is grateful for the effort Vollheim has put in since 2017. We want a fair and serious working life policy, where all companies follow the rules. The Norwegian Labor Inspectorate is an important agency in this work, with the main task of uncovering workplace crime and carrying out inspections. This effort continues with undiminished strength, says Brenna.
