This morning, for the first time, Nygård will give an annual speech to the actors who will ensure that the trains in this country run on rails. The Norwegian Railway Authority, the train companies, trade unions, the Norwegian Railway Authority and Bane Nor are among the audience. In recent years, Bane Nor has had a target that 90 per cent of the passenger trains in the country should run when they do. Looking at the facts, the target was reached in the pandemic years 2020 and 2021. In 2022, only 87.8 percent of the passenger trains were on schedule. – When you stand on the platform, you should not have to wonder if the train will come and go when it is supposed to. For the train, it will come. And if it doesn’t turn out as planned, you should get good information about what to do, says Nygård. Announces rail investment before Easter Nygård says the Government will prioritize measures to increase punctuality in train traffic when they present the new National Transport Plan (NTP) before Easter. It contains a promise of money for maintenance and renewal of the railway which will improve punctuality. – We promise that more trains will be on schedule. We believe that this will result in more satisfied passengers and that more people will take the train. – Haven’t talked well enough together But besides money, Nygård also wants the railway sector to work smarter than before. – We need better cooperation and coordination between agencies and businesses. In other words, we need a stronger culture of punctuality in the sector, says Nygård. Every link is important – right up to all the leaders sitting here in the hall. Nygård says that the various professional communities have not talked well enough together and that it is notified too late up the system when things are not as they should be. – The problems on the Folloban and the train standstill in Romeriksporten and several other incidents show us that there are still weaknesses in the current systems and routines, says Nygård.
