Tari thinks it is strange that there is so little money in the chess federation as it is. He points out that chess is shown on TV in Norway and that it is popular among the population. – But you knew that there was little money in the chess when you started betting? – No one is forcing me to bet on chess. I have won the junior WC, and I have been number two in Norway for many years behind Magnus Carlsen. Nevertheless, the association has nothing in terms of sponsors or support. I choose to bet, but it is not optimal. The situation is hopeless, he says. Restricted finances in the association Anniken Vestby, president of the Norwegian Chess Federation, tells news that NSF has restricted finances, and supports players in team championships such as the EC and Olympics. In the WC in rapid and blitz chess, the players must register themselves. – I am the first to regret that there is no money to support Aryan this year. He was uncertain and in doubt for a long time, but he will get on the plane. – It’s a choice you have to make, and I finally decided to stay. But I think it’s a shame that it has to be like that, says the 24-year-old, who has been a professional since leaving school. He tells of a busy autumn that has been strongly marked by chess, with both ups and downs. He has never played as much as he has this fall. England, Montenegro and Albania are some of the countries he has visited recently. – I have had some good tournaments and performances. But at the same time it is very difficult to manage to make a living as a chess player. At least now, as there is very little support for playing professional chess, he says. – I am very, very strongly considering working or studying. I have never considered it as strongly as I do now. As of now, if I am going to make a decision, I will start studying from autumn 2024, he adds.
