14 December 2023 at 13:09 The European Commission wants to let Norway into the EU’s health union The European Commission agrees to let Norway and the other EFTA countries Iceland and Liechtenstein into the EU’s health union. – The European Commission will now intensify talks with the EFTA countries on a framework for closer cooperation on the matter, says a press release from the Commission on Thursday. Norway has long fought to join the EU’s health union, which is not part of the EEA agreement. – Norwegian participation in the European health cooperation is very important to reduce our vulnerability, both in and outside of crises, said Minister of Health Ingvild Kjerkol (Ap) to NTB when she visited Brussels in September. The commission will now present its recommendation to the EU Council of Ministers. In the EFTA countries too, the decision must go through a formal approval process. (NTB)
