12 December 2023 at 07:24 The word of the year is “AI-generated” The Language Council has named “AI-generated” as the word of the year. The word means “made with artificial intelligence”. – The word will probably be used more and more as artificial intelligence is adopted in more areas, says senior adviser Dagfinn Rødningen at the Language Council in a press release. The Norwegian translation has gained a foothold in this country, while the neighboring countries use the English abbreviation “AI” for “artificial intelligence”. According to Rødningen, “AI-generated” was used more than “AI-generated” in Norwegian texts. Director Åse Wetås of the Language Council is pleased that the Norwegian abbreviation for artificial intelligence is about to establish itself. – Much of the technological language comes from English, and many will be excluded from the public vocabulary if a Norwegian professional language is not established in this field, she says. Other words that were considered this year’s word of the year were “animal time”, “billionaire flight”, “polycrisis”, “dementia”, “green colonialism”, “sensitivity reader”, “ultra-processed”, “plan washing” and “neurodiversity”. Last year, “shrinkflation” was named word of the year.
