15 November 2023 at 21:46 The UN Security Council calls for “humanitarian pauses” in Gaza The UN Security Council calls for “extended humanitarian pauses” in the fighting in the Gaza Strip. The resolution is the first from the council since the start of the bloody conflict between Israel and Hamas on October 7. Malta tabled the motion for a resolution which was adopted by twelve votes. The United States, Great Britain and Russia abstained. According to aid organizations, the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip affects 2.3 million people, who are completely without access to vital aid. The UN Security Council also calls for the unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas and other groups. Around 240 hostages were taken in connection with the terrorist attack against Israel on 7 October.
