Vadsøværingen and scooter cross profile Malene Cottew was one of the nominees for the motorsport athlete and snowmobile athlete of the year awards during this year’s Motorsport Gala organized by the Norwegian Motorsport Association. On Saturday, it became clear that she secured both awards. Cottew says that she was very shaken when she first received the award as snowmobile athlete of the year, but that she had not thought that she would receive the award as motorsport athlete of the year. – I didn’t expect it, says Cottew, who thought it was Elias Ishoel who was going to be the motorsport athlete of the year before her name was called out. – I really have no words. It’s actually quite sick, adds the Finnmarkingen about the award that she received from her long-time trainer Marius Dammyr. Which gave the award an extra meaning. – The last two years I would not have got through the season without him and the small circle I have. Cottew won the women’s class for the third time in the US Scootercross Championship last season. Finnmarkingen also became world champion in Kirkenes in April. Cottew won the women’s class overall last season with the US scooter cross team. After the award ceremony, she went straight to Sweden for a training camp, but she is somewhat unsure of how her body works, as she has been sidelined with an injury for six weeks. – I don’t have too many expectations yet, because now I just have to get a ride and really see what my body says and hope for the best, says Cottew about the status ahead of the season. Vadsøværingen points out that injuries are part of the sport, even if it can be frustrating at times. – You just have to make the best out of the situation. Malene Cottew won WC gold in Kirkenes this winter. The organizing club Kirkenes Motorklubb also won a prize for this year’s event during the Motorsport Gala. The motor club writes on Facebook that the whole of Kirkenes has contributed to them securing this award. Karasjok Motorklubb’s event Kara X was nominated for the award for this year’s broad event, but it did not quite make it during this year’s award ceremony. New season It is not just Malene Cottew who will represent Finnmark in the upcoming American Snowmobile Cross Championship. Altaværing’s Jan Even Romsdal is also ready for a new season in the American Snowmobile Cross Championship. His American team, Elite Motorsports, announced last week that the Finnmarken will represent them next season. Romsdal himself writes on Facebook that he is happy to have signed an agreement with the American team. Elite Motorsports states that they hope Romsdal can help fight for a title in this year’s season.
