The man in his early 20s who is said to have threatened a car before he was shot by the police in Askim on Wednesday has previously been convicted several times. In 2022, he was sentenced to two years in prison for serious violence and threats. This is shown in a judgment that news has gained access to. The judgment states that the man in his 20s followed a random man and his two-year-old son home to their home. Outside the residence, he asked his father to get him a car. The father did not. When lifted, the two-year-old aimed up into the air, so he began to cry. Only after 30 seconds did he let go of the young child, because he realized he wasn’t going to get hold of any car, according to the verdict. The man who was robbed of the car was not physically injured. The police came across the stolen car on a road outside the center of Askim. The car ended up in a field, before a threatening situation should have arisen. According to the police, the man in his 20s allegedly threatened them with a weapon. An official then fired a shot at the man’s leg. He was soon after taken to hospital with serious injuries. The special unit is investigating this part of the case. There, the young man has the status of offended. Convicted of stabbing Two days after the threat incident in 2022, stabbing targeted a random man in the stomach and back with a folding knife. The man who was stabbed was hospitalized and had to undergo surgery. – Stabbing with the force that the defendant used has a great potential for damage, the judgment states. He was also convicted of violence against a fellow inmate in a prison. Police prosecutor Ida Lovise Gjeset is familiar with the judgment in question and its content. – I don’t want to comment on what other knowledge the police have, says Gjeset. The accused has also previously been convicted of driving under the influence of drugs. Before he turned 18, he was also charged with two counts of failure to prosecute for violence and damage. He is charged with aggravated robbery, threats to the police and breach of the Road Traffic Act. The young man is also charged with having killed several birds belonging to someone else, the police say. In the detention meeting on Friday, he met via video link from the hospital. He has not yet explained himself to the police. – It is up to the accused himself when he wants to talk to the police. As I understand it, he does not want to talk now, so it is something we have to follow up further, says police attorney Gjeset.
