27 September 2023 at 07:14 FHI: Far fewer heart attacks and strokes From 2017 to 2022, new cases of acute heart attacks have fallen by 31 per cent in women and 22 per cent in men. Acute stroke has fallen by 8 per cent in women and 10 per cent in men. This is what the Institute of Public Health writes in a press release. – A decrease in the number of people who smoke, have high cholesterol and/or high blood pressure, as well as better treatment are likely reasons for the decrease in heart attacks and strokes, says Ester Kringeland, senior physician at the Heart and Vascular Register. Despite the decline, cardiovascular diseases are still the second most common cause of death in Norway, and accounted for 23 percent of all deaths in 2022.
