It was on Monday afternoon that the police received a report from a concerned dog owner who had observed sausages full of razor blades laid out in the hiking area Stevika in Kjerrgarden on Askøy outside Bergen. The son of Janne Kjellvoll Midtbø discovered the pieces of sausage when he went for a walk in the neighborhood with the family’s dogs. – He called us and was quite upset, says Midtbø. He had seen that one of the dogs was eating something. Then he discovered that there were pieces of sausage lying there, which he thought was strange. He picked one up and fished out a razor blade. The family drove straight to the vet, and on the way they called the police. – When the police arrived at the scene, they found several pieces of sausage with razor blades, and a razor blade lying on the ground. In addition, they found grapes, chocolate, avocados and onions lying along the path, says Midtbø. Chocolate and grapes in particular can be dangerous for dogs to ingest. – It was done very maliciously. They will hurt animals when they do something like that. It’s not just dogs that could have gone bad, it’s wild animals that could have ingested it, she says. It was BA who mentioned the case first. – This is the way you only read about Ifølgje Midtbø, this is a path that mostly only local ashøy værgers use. The hiking trail is a shortcut between two roads over a field. – Branches were laid over the entrance to the path there. I think the people who have done it are people who don’t want us to go there, says Midtbø. – I have never experienced anything like it. This is the kind of thing you only read about, which happens elsewhere. She published a post in a Facebook group for the local community called Kjerrgardstavla. Then someone commented that she had found grapes in the same place earlier. – This is the safe and calm Kjerrgarden. You don’t imagine that it will happen here, says the dog owner. Fortunately, the dogs of the Kjellvoll Midtbø family were fine, but now both she and the police are asking dog owners in the area to be careful.
