Little beats a good hug after a defeat. At least if Ons Jabeur is to be believed, who lost Saturday’s Wimbledon final against Marketa Vondrousova. Because it wasn’t just any embrace Jabeur received after the prestigious final. Catherine, or for many Kate, the Princess of Wales, gave the tennis player a rare hug. AWARDED: It was second place in this year’s Wimbledon tournament for Jabeur, who here receives the proof from Princess Kate. Photo: Alastair Grant / AP – She didn’t know whether to give me a hug or not. I told her hugs are always ok with me. It was a wonderful moment and she is always so nice to me, Jabeur told the organizer afterwards. – She was so sweet In the pictures you can see a clearly marked Jabeur after the heavy loss. The match against Vondrousova, who was unseeded before the tournament, ended 6-4, 6-4. Now the Tunisian shares the words she received from the princess. – She encouraged me to be strong, to come back and win a grand slam, to win Wimbledon. She was so sweet, explained the Tunisian. SUPPORTED: Jabeur was affected after the settlement. Photo: Alastair Grant / AP The video of the hug and exchange, which has been shared on Wimbledon’s Twitter page, has generated over 1.8 million page views and received huge messages of support. The video is titled “a royal embrace”. “What a beautiful and wonderful moment,” writes one in the comments section. A rare sight Princess Kate was seen during both the women’s and men’s Wimbledon finals, handing out precious metal to both the winning and losing finalists. Royal family expert on TV 2, Trond Norén Isaksen, believes it is an unusual sight for British royals to hug people. EXPERT: Trond Norén Isaksen is fond of Photo: Gitte Johannessen / NTB He nevertheless points out: – Kate does it sometimes – mostly children, but recently she also hugged one of her old teachers whom she spotted in a crowd at an official assignment, he says to news and continues: – In the context of Wimbledon, the parallel is the Duchess of Kent, who is married to Queen Elizabeth’s cousin, who comforted and hugged the crying Jana Jana Novotna when she lost to Steffi Graf in 1993. PREMIERE: It was a second place in this year’s Wimbledon tournament for Jabeur, who here receives the proof from Princess Kate. Photo: Alastair Grant / AP Isaksen believes that Kate’s maneuver is not very common. – What the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Kent have in common is that they belong to the group of members of the British royal family who act like “normal” people. Queen Elizabeth would never have hugged strangers in public. In the men’s final, it was Carlos Alcaraz who came out victorious against Novak Djokovic and took the title. The latter apparently received no hugs from the princess, despite tears during the match interview afterwards. The tears came from the Serb after he started talking about his children.
