10 July 2023 at 19:16 Volcanic eruption near Reykjavik The Litli-Hrútur volcano started an eruption on Monday afternoon. This is reported by the Icelandic broadcaster RUV. Volcanologist Kristín Elísa Guðmundsdóttir at the Meteorological Institute says that at 18.40 Norwegian time they started to see smoke from the eruption. She says that so far it is not possible on a surveillance camera that magma is flowing out of the volcano. She nevertheless says that it is likely that it will and expects that it will become visible very soon. Litli-Hrútur is not far from the road between the capital Reykjavik and Keflavik airport. People are encouraged not to stop on the road to watch the eruption.
