The bath temperature one of the warmest in over a hundred years – news Sørlandet – Local news, TV and radio

– It’s refreshing, but at the same time very hot, says Alice Bore after her first bath at Nidelv camping in Arendal. She and her roommate Gisle Momrak took the caravan in tow from Stavanger, and have started their holiday in Southern Norway. – We don’t need to travel to the South when it’s like this. I have never before experienced it so warm in the sea so early in Norway. And she’s on to something. At the vast majority of bathing spots in Southern Norway, the water temperature is well over 20 degrees. It is quite rare at this time of year, researcher Jon Albertsen at the Institute of Marine Research can confirm. Oceanographer Albertsen says that June has exploded in terms of the air temperature and that the sea temperature has followed suit. – It is very warm in the surface water in Southern Norway compared to what has been common in the last hundred early summers. There could be temperature records in the water if the weather holds in the future, says marine researcher Jan Albertsen. Photo: Ina Marie Sigurdsen / news There are some individual years that can “match” this year’s temperature, but there are very few that have been so warm this early. And degrees have risen rapidly since the end of May. – The sea temperature has increased by over 10 degrees in just two to three weeks, says Albertsen. For now, we are somewhat behind the record year 2018, but July was cold at the time. – If the good weather continues, it could be a record year. Unique measurement Nationally, the measurement of sea temperature on Flødevigen outside Arendal is unique as it has been measured every day since 1919. The Institute of Marine Research also measures along the coast from Lista in the south to Ingøy in Finnmark, but at these places the sea temperature is recorded manually every 14 days. The data flow is therefore a bit slow to say anything about this year’s June summer in relation to historical measurements, explains Albertsen. – Rumors say that the bathing temperature in Bergen is almost as high as in Southern Norway, so you can probably say that it is well above what is normal for that part of the country. Also in the east of the country, the surface water is over 20 degrees in many places. He encourages everyone who is going out for a swim and is curious about how warm the water is to check out havvarsel.no. Here you can get a map with bathing temperatures and a two-day forecast. Many have jumped into the sea in June. Photo: Miriam Grov / news More bathers At Kristiansand holiday center in Dvergsnes, they have noticed that warm weather and water attract more bathers than normal. – We have probably never had so many people come and bathe so early in the season and we see that the children lie out in the water for a long time and enjoy themselves, says general manager Kristin Oterholt Vårdal. But it’s not just the little ones who enjoy the fresh water in the south. – People who don’t usually bathe suddenly find out that it’s very nice. Kristin Oterholt Vårdal says they notice that there are more bathers than normal this early in June. Photo: Ina Marie Sigurdsen / news Camping guest at Nidelv camping in Arendal Alice Bore, is not usually a bather, but she too can take extra long dips now. – I’m actually a bit afraid to go out, but now I do it without thinking about it, she says.
