17 June 2023 at 20:19 Man in his 20s drowned in Eidfjord A person lost his life after a drowning accident in Eidfjord in Hardanger on Saturday evening. The accident happened in Salthelledalen. There is no road connection to the site and therefore boats and a helicopter were used in the search. The man was with a group of friends who were swimming in the fjord. They raised the alarm when the friend did not come back up. The police were notified at 19:48. An hour later, the man was found by divers. Life-saving first aid was administered, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Local people contributed boats to the search and a cruise ship provided light boats. In addition, the Red Cross participated in the rescue work. The deceased is 28 years old and lives in Eidfjord municipality. The next of kin have been notified and will receive assistance from the municipality’s crisis team. The incident appears to be an accident, but Voss police station district has opened an investigation case and questioned others who were present, West police district writes in a press release.
