A person has been charged with leaving a child in a helpless state, police prosecutor Torgeir Lutro told VG. The police attorney clarifies to the newspaper that the charge is the result of blood samples being taken from the person. When the police use coercive measures in the investigation, such as blood tests, the person exposed to this automatically receives the status of accused. The police have not concluded that anything criminal has happened. They are still working on several hypotheses. Moved out with large resources On Monday, the emergency services moved out to an address in Sarpsborg. The first report to the police was that there was an unconscious child at the address. The child should not have been breathing. – We moved out together with health, but unfortunately it was not possible to save the child’s life, said the police’s task leader Tor-Arild Hansen to news on Monday. It was family members of the child who contacted the emergency services. It is not yet known what caused the child’s death. Three main hypotheses The police worked on Monday based on three main hypotheses. – One is that this is a medical case, the second is that an accident has occurred and the third is that it is a criminal offence, said Hansen. On Monday evening, the police went door to door and spoke to neighbours. At the same time, crime scene technicians worked at the address. The investigation is ongoing.
