Aust-Lofoten upper secondary school notified Nordland county council of the error on Thursday afternoon, writes VG. The error was discovered by Sanne Kristin Nordheim-Larsen (19), Russian president at Aust-Lofoten upper secondary school. It happened when Nordheim-Larsen asked a head of department for an overview of the grades from grade 1 to grade 3. When she followed the description of how to find her grades, she also found out which oral exam she was going to take. At the very bottom of the website, under the grade she got on a private exam, it said exam form: oral. – I have not had an oral or written exam in history before. FOUND THE MISTAKE: It was a student at Aust-Lofoten upper secondary school who discovered the mistake first Photo: John Inge Johansen / news Passed it on their girlfriends. It turned out that they could also see both which subject and which form of examination they should take. – Then the others were also checked and it was everything from religion, to physics, to history. It was the right moves that came up, and the school has confirmed that afterwards, says Nordheim-Larsen. Actually, students should not know this until 48 hours before the exam itself. The first exam date is 2 June, but some exams are as late as 21 June. This means that some students have found this out several weeks in advance. – I would like to think that the school will cancel considering that it should be the same for everyone. It’s really cool that you know it before everyone else, says Nordheim-Larsen. Unfair Maria Krane Storeide (18) goes to the same school as Norheim-Larsen, and has also found out what she will have to do for the exam. She is going to pass physics 2 orally, and thinks it is a perfectly fine subject to have an exam in. When news asks if she thinks new subjects will be drawn, she says no. – There are many people who think it is unfair. Those who know this have a very big advantage and can start preparing and exclude the other subjects, says Storeide. – There are many people who think it is unfair, says Maria Storeide. Photo: Private – I think that either everyone gets to know, because it can’t be like that only someone gets to know, but not everyone. Or it will be cancelled. But it probably takes a lot more, when it’s only a question of 27 pupils having found out. So the school may think “yes, yes, it will work”, says Storeide. Double wrinkling Both Nordheim-Larsen and Storeide were among the students who experienced wrinkling with exams on the 22nd e-mail. At the time, almost no one had access to the exam paper. – It is unprofessional. When there hasn’t been an exam for three years, and when there is, they manage to make so many mistakes, says Storeide. She believes that this curl has caused them as students to become more stressed during the exam, because such technical errors have a lot to say about how you do in the exam. Fear of internal error After a teacher was informed of the error, it was passed on to the principal at the school, Linda Walle Madsen. At first she feared an internal error. – We only see our school, and did not know if there were other schools that had the same problem. – We immediately checked whether we could have entered the wrong publication date, but this was denied. There are still many students who have not been told which subject they will take the exam in, and Madsen thinks that is unfair. – There are many students who have not seen this, and they think this will be hugely unfair. The fact that some people get two weeks to prepare while others get two days is a big difference. Visma: – It is unfortunate that the examination schedule for students is published on the schools’ website in the system Visma InSchool (VIS). This system is used by all upper secondary schools in the country. – It was a somewhat sporadic case that did not apply to everyone, says Bård Kasin, program director for Visma InSchool. Visma became aware of the error on Thursday afternoon. Kasin says the system was taken down quite quickly after they were informed of the error and that the system was back in normal operation around half past seven that evening. – There is an error that has occurred in a special event frequency. It meant that individual students were able to see what they were likely to come up with in the oral exam before it was due, and which was available for a short period. According to Kasin, the move was visible to a few pupils in Rogaland, Innlandet, Nordland, Viken, Møre and Romsdal, Vestfold and Telemark, Troms and Finnmark as well as Vestland. – This is not the first time there have been problems with their systems during exams this spring. What do you think about it? – The two incidents have no connection. There are two completely different problems we have encountered, says Kasin. He elaborates that the error on Thursday was a small bug that appeared, while the previous one was linked to operational problems due to the large number of students who had to log in to find their exam mark. – They have no connection. But it is clear that it is unfortunate that the two incidents have come to light. Start practicing Even though many students still do not know what they are going to do in the exam, Sanne Kristin Nordheim-Larsen and Maria Krane Storeide, among others, can start practicing for the exam. Unless changes are made. – History is a big subject, and you get a topic within that subject four hours before, says Nordheim-Larsen.
