Støre spends 1 May on a tour around Mjøsa. During the day, five villages and towns will be visited by the AP leader. First up was Brumunddal this morning, where Støre started the mobilization 133 days before the election. – The fact that I wanted to come here in the election year 2023 is an expression of how important this part of the country is to our movement – and how important the movement has been to Innlandet, decade after decade, said Støre. – More people are going to work The war in Ukraine was given time in the introduction to Støre’s speech and he thanked the municipalities in the interior for taking it upon themselves to settle refugees from the war-ravaged country. From there he drew lines to how the war has affected us here at home with the energy crisis, price increases and interest rate increases. – Everyone can feel the consequences of the war in their everyday life here in Norway. It is more difficult to make ends meet, to pay the bills and loans. More difficult to plan for the future, says Støre. The Labor Party’s mantra “work for all” remains firm. Støre points out that 100,000 more people have found work in the past year. – And there will be more: “Create and share”, that is a guideline for our policy, says Støre. He points out that the government has plans to create new jobs in green industry in the coming years. Jobs must also be secured in agriculture. – When we get more people into work, we can also expand welfare, says Støre. – Accept with a clear conscience Because on the workers’ day of struggle, Støre also spent time talking about those who fall out of working life for various reasons. – Not everyone can work, we must take good care of them too. With sickness benefits, employment verification benefits, disability benefits and pensions, says Støre. – You should accept that with a clear conscience, for you, the welfare state is not for decoration – it is there to be used. Støre warns that the pensions will be regulated so that this year we will see what he refers to as “the biggest growth we have experienced in any social security settlement”. – At least in all the years I have been in politics, he adds.
