– They are playing with the Norwegian national team tonight. Norway is about to be humiliated, said news commentator Olav Traaen midway through the match. Norway delivered far from any party football on the Spanish island of Ibiza on Friday. Because at the popular holiday destination, it was mostly one team that stood for life and excitement. Spain did not give up until they had scored four goals and eventually win the match 4-2. – We are too far away today. We need a better collective than it was today. This was a battle picture that did not suit Norway. Spain was allowed to dominate and do as they pleased, concluded news expert Carl-Erik Torp. After a long injury break from football, which lasted over 200 days, the striker scored the 1-1 goal for Norway after just over 20 minutes. The last national team match for the Lyon player came in the 1-0 victory over Belgium in the World Cup qualifier last September. – It was very nice to be back again for Norway and to be with the girls again. It is a tough match and a tough result. We get two goals which is good for us, but we are left with a lot that we still have to work on in order to be prepared for the WC, says Ada Hegerberg to news. But the scoring was of little use. Because shortly afterwards, Jennifer Hermoso scored her second goal of the evening. You would think that a score gave us a bit of confidence, then we are just as defensive, Torp thought. The second half was also Spanish-dominated, but Norway got a small boost when Cesilie Andreassen reduced the score to 2–4. In September last year, 15 national team players withdrew in protest. The union responded by threatening sanctions if they did not issue an apology. According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, the reason must have been that the players do not want to play as long as Jorge Vilda is national team manager. Vilda is nevertheless still national team manager, and several of the players are still in protest.
