Reuters reports. Byalyatski is the head of the human rights organization Vyasna, which he founded in 1996. He has been imprisoned since 2021 and could not receive the Nobel Peace Prize in person. Byalyatski and two of his associates were charged with smuggling money into Belarus and financing demonstrations. His allies consider the imprisonment and indictment a form of revenge by the regime for his human rights work.
