According to the news agency, the earthquake has hit central Turkey. The extent of the earthquake on Saturday night is not known. On the night of 6 February, south-eastern Turkey and north-western Syria were hit by a powerful earthquake. This was measured at 7.8 in strength. Since then, over 2,000 aftershocks have been recorded, including one with a magnitude of 7.5 in the same area nine hours after the first earthquake. Earthquakes are generally common in Turkey, but the tremors on 6 February caused massive destruction and have been described as the worst natural disaster in Europe in 100 years. At least 46,000 people have been confirmed dead in the earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria, according to updated figures, and Norway is providing an extra NOK 100 million in support for the earthquake disaster, Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt (Ap) announced on Saturday.
