The local team had its annual meeting on Wednesday evening. There it became clear that leader Trond Giske (Ap) believes the government must come to the fore with a more aggressive electricity policy. Giske began his speech during the annual meeting by calling for political control over electricity to be taken back. – We are told daily that it is not possible. Because it is the market that decides, That it is not possible to do anything, it is just like that. That electricity that costs 15 øre to produce must be sold for 3 kroner. Because that’s just the way it is. Nidaro’s Social Democratic Forum no longer believes in this. We want the steering back, says Giske. Must gain control over foreign cables The local team believes that several measures must be introduced to gain stronger political control over energy policy, including: Negotiations with the EU and Great Britain to ensure control over the export of electricity in foreign cables Energy production must be defined as social infrastructure Greater investment in hydropower, and increased production from existing power plants Renegotiation of agreements with other countries in the energy area Giske says in his speech that people must speak loudly and protest against the current electricity policy and the way the market now works. – You must not stop making noise, says the leader of Nidaro’s social democratic forum. The right to ensure regulation of exports is important for better governance, writes the local team in its proposal for a statement. “As long as the export capacity through the last cables to the continent and Great Britain is so large, and the power is traded on the stock exchange, the price of electricity in southern Norway will be the highest offer in the market anyway, even though Norwegian households and companies buy 90 percent of the electricity and normally only 10 percent goes to export. We must therefore have a political regulation of the foreign trade in electricity so that hydropower and our energy wealth, and not least the multi-year reservoirs, are disposed of in the best interests of Norwegian consumers and Norwegian business”, they write in the resolution. Bringing a resolution to the national meeting In 2021, the local team had 321 members. With over 3,000 members, Nidaros has now become the largest local team in the Labor Party. Giske also used the speech to praise the enormous growth in members: – Last summer we became bigger than the Oslo working class community. And this autumn it exploded, he says. Good turnout at the annual meeting of Nidaro’s social democratic forum. The main points in the local team’s resolution must be taken to the annual meeting of both the Trondheim Labor Party and the county team. They will also be presented at the Labor Party’s national meeting in May. – We will win there with our vision, says Giske.
