What would life have been like if you had lived it with a blood alcohol level of 0.5? The theory that life had been better is portrayed through four teaching colleagues in the performance “A glass to” at Christiania Teater. You can wink and smile at life, and feel that everything is falling into place, says Gimle. “One more glass” is based on the Danish film “Druk”, which has had great international success, and which won the Oscar for best international film in 2021. The teachers in “Et glass til” experience that both their teaching and their self-confidence get a boost – but this also results in serious consequences. There were also consequences for Khademi when he did the experiment at home. – When I saw the film in the cinema, I heard a writer and a psychiatrist talking about drug use versus substance abuse, which I thought was very interesting. I just had to try it myself, so on the way home from the cinema I stopped by the pole and bought a bottle of alcohol, says the actor. Norway was closed down, there was a pandemic and he had neither children nor girlfriend to take into account. – I got up and took two units every three hours until 8pm in the evening. In the morning I started with the “breakfast shots”, then I ate breakfast. Then I was in a warm, cozy and delicious intoxication, he explains. Felt senile The music was lovely and the sunrises were much nicer than they used to be. He also chatted a lot on the phone – which he also thought was much more fun than before. – I was very cool on the phone, and probably felt cooler than I really was. But eventually I became very “snap” in my thought process. Everything became a bit like this: “Where did I leave that thing…”, “what is it called…”, “what was I supposed to reach…”. At the end of the day, he became so angry that he was scared. Nader Khademi in Anne Lindmo’s chair. He got to the point where he had had enough. – The small window into the senile life scared me so much that I thought that now I’m rounding off. This is not a sustainable way to feel good. – Alcohol is cheating Khademi has found other ways to get the intoxication that alcohol gives. – I get a lot of pleasure from meditation, walking in the forest and just breathing. It gives me much of the same effect as alcohol, only much healthier. Nader Khademi has found alternative ways to experience addiction in life. Photo: Julia Marie Naglestad / news The 36-year-old has also put her love into the effect of ice-cold water. – If you are feeling the small anxiety, and think that it would be nice to have a glass of wine or two to numb it, then you should go into the shower and take an ice-cold shower for two minutes. Then the body works in high gear to warm up again, and it doesn’t have the capacity for anything else, he explains and continues: – I usually fill the bath with ice-cold water, jump in – get control of my breathing – I also get back up. I love it. Alcohol is cheating to cope with life, he believes. Fellow actor Gimle says that he almost stopped drinking after he turned 60. Inge Helgar Gimle as Tommy in “A glass to”. Photo: Øyvind Ganesh – Villa soft drinks, tea and coffee are the most popular. It’s almost like I think alcohol can taste a bit like ink. Now it is tennis, friends and the motorcycle that give him the right intoxication. – When I ride a motorcycle, I don’t think about anything else but being on the road. Sitting on it is absolutely magical. You have to be so present, and it’s a nice concentration of happiness, he says.
