Man died after air sports accident in Loen – news Vestland

Rescue operation launched The police reported the accident just before 1pm on Friday. – Observation has been made of a speed glider that had a difficult takeoff from the Loen Skylift, says Dan Erik Johannesen in the police. The person was found in challenging terrain at an altitude of 650 meters and a rescue operation was launched. A rescue helicopter was able to retrieve the person, but a short time later it became clear that the person had died. There were several others present during the accident and the municipality’s crisis team has been contacted, writes the West police district in a press release. The police are opening a case and will investigate the accident, including talking to witnesses. When so many people do this here, it is difficult to avoid something happening, says Stryn mayor Per Kjøllesdal. The fact that there is another accident in Loen affects the environment. – It is always tragic when such fatal and serious accidents happen and we should of course be ahead of them. It is difficult for other athletes and their relatives. There is always a risk, as there is in other sports, but it is tough when such accidents happen, says Trond Nilsen, head of hang-gliding and paragliding at the Norwegian Air Sports Association.
