Vote for the finalists in “Name of the Year” – news Culture and entertainment

5 January 2023 at 23:09 Won one million kroner For the first time, a quartet wins the large Equinor grant of one million kroner. The string quartet Opus13 consists of violinists Sonoko Miriam Welde (26) and Edvard Erdal (26), viola player Michael Andreas Grolid (25) and Daniel Thorell (25) on cello. The scholarship is Norway’s largest in classical music, and six years ago Sonoko won the scholarship as a soloist. Only athletes between the ages of 18 and 28 can receive the scholarship. The jury, led by Leif Ove Andsnes, believes that the quartet is distinctive and unique, with a high level, which has a good starting point to become one of the great quartets internationally. And the scholarship is intended to be a door opener for young Norwegian musicians who want an international career. The other nominees were soprano Lydia Hoen Tjore, violinist Ludvig Gudim, and tenor Eirik Grøtvedt. The prize is awarded during the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra’s New Year’s concert on 6 January.
