Irna calls the murder an honor killing. The murder is said to have taken place in the provincial capital of Ahvaz in Khuzestan. Pictures and video circulating on social media purport to show the husband carrying a knife and his wife’s head around his hometown. The woman, who is named as “Mona” and “Ghazal”, is said to have fled to Turkey four months ago, before being persuaded by her father to return home. She returned home on Friday, and was killed shortly after, according to the Iranian news agency Fars. Both the husband and his brother, who are accused of helping, have been arrested.
