– It is a very good opportunity for Ukrainian students. Many young people have fled Ukraine due to the war, and they need to continue their studies. It says Ukrainian Anna Skrypalshchykova. She has studied at UiT Norway’s Arctic University in Alta since 2020. Skrypalshchykova remembers that it was a long process when she applied for a study place in Norway, and therefore appreciates that the university has now arranged for Ukrainian refugees. The government has put in place a solution that gives the Ukrainian refugees the opportunity to apply for an extraordinary study admission this autumn. – Great willingness to stand up for this group Already in March, the Ministry of Education asked all universities and colleges to register capacity to receive additional students from Ukraine. Based on this, the government has increased the budgets so that a total of 1,000 extra study places can be offered at 23 educational institutions. NTNU, the University of Bergen and the University of Oslo get most of the extra places. It was after being in contact with a friend who moved from Kyiv that he decided to write a resolution that Ukrainian refugees should be allowed to study in Norway. – It would have been tragic that she, as a well-educated lawyer, would stay in an asylum reception center if she were to come here. Stave is therefore pleased with the offer UiT has made, especially that Ukrainian refugees escape the financial demands placed on international students.
