7 December 2022 at 14:35 Over 50 infected in the salmonella outbreak The Salmonella outbreak has now reached 58 infected people, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority tells news in an update. – Everyone has fallen ill during November, with a peak of infection in the middle of the month, says senior adviser Catherine Signe Svindland. The Norwegian Food Safety Authority believes that the source of infection is a foreign food which is “common, has a fairly short shelf life and is distributed throughout the country”. The Norwegian Food Safety Authority and FHI are also in contact with the Swedish authorities, who have also had a large outbreak with the same type of bacteria (Salmonella Agona). In that outbreak, 26 people across Sweden have been infected. In Norway, there are people living in ten counties who have been registered in the outbreak. They are distributed as follows: Vestland (14), Viken (16), Vestfold and Telemark (10), Innlandet (3), Trøndelag (2), Troms and Finnmark (3), Møre and Romsdal (2), Oslo (6) , Rogaland (1) and Nordland (1). 23 of the 58 registered have been admitted to hospital, says FHI.
