The 16-year-old simply likes to please others. It is the third year in a row that she has done something for others in the run-up to Christmas. As a 14-year-old, she collected NOK 14,000 and bought Christmas presents for residents and staff at Roverudhjemmet in Kongsvinger. The following year, it was NOK 45,000 and a pre-Christmas dinner with dancing and accordion for 100 elderly people. This year, it is single parents and their children who will benefit from her commitment. – It’s to please those around me, and to be able to contribute to them having a good time and being able to experience something together with the people around them, says the 16-year-old. With the help of her family, she has driven from door to door and collected bag after bag of bottle deposits. – It takes time. I spend maybe 10 minutes on a bag like that, she says. To find out what the money should be used for this year, she asked Kongsvinger municipality for advice. There she heard that there are many people who have tight finances at the moment, including many single parents. So then there will be a Christmas party for them and their children. 100 adults and children have signed up. – I am very impressed. This is a girl with her heart in the right place. And not only that, but she also manages to carry it out. Everything is so orderly, says Harbosen. There are also bragging rights from her fellow students and teachers at Health and Education, where she is in her second year at Sentrum upper secondary school. Secretive about next year Karianne got her commitment and desire to do something for others at secondary school when she took the elective “Efforts for others.” – I guess it’s just always been in the blood; to help those around me and others I don’t know yet. Because she already has plans for next year. – That plan is quite solid. But it is secret until December next year, says Karianne Moen-Pedersen.
