– Dry weather continues this week as well, says state meteorologist Julie Solsvik Vågane. The meteorologists are therefore upgrading the forest fire warning from yellow to orange level in the outer regions of the counties. At the weekend there were fires in both Ålesund and Roan, which led to several homes being evacuated. The fire service then said that the drought we are seeing now is unusual. Dry all week In Møre and Romsdal, no precipitation is still expected before the coming weekend. – It has been dry for about two weeks now, so the danger of grass and heather fires is a challenge, says the meteorologist. Ålesund fire brigade has introduced a temporary ban on all bonfires and other outdoor use of fire in Ålesund, Sula and Giske. The ban applies from Sunday 27 November and for the next ten days. The background is that it is very dry in the terrain, and there is a great risk of fire spreading in forest, grass and heather. – It has been dry in the terrain for a long time, and there is nothing to indicate that this will decrease in the future. This means that we are concerned about fires in the vegetation. The weekend’s fire in Ålesund was quite large, and that is also a contributing factor to us introducing this ban. That’s what Sindre Egeness, fire chief at Ålesund fire service, says. Sindre Egeness, fire chief in Ålesund fire service. Egeness warns against the dangers of lighting fires outside now. – In the worst case scenario, this can spread to buildings. In addition, people who are out for a walk in the terrain can be locked inside. The fire service also reminds that the use of fireworks is only permitted on New Year’s Eve after 18:00. – Here in the area, we often see that fire in the vegetation is often associated with the use of fireworks, says the fire chief. Egeness says that breaking the ban can lead to reactions. – Basically, it can lead to fines depending on how big the consequence of what you have done is. There was great destruction in the terrain after the fire in Ålesund. The orange danger warning will therefore probably be adjusted down earlier there than in the other counties.
