The legal framework encompasses a section of Preliminary Provisions, eight comprehensive books, and a Transitional Regime designed to facilitate the integration and enforcement of these rights.
Government Launches Consultation for General Law on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and Afro-Mexicans
Luisa María Alcalde Luján, a legal advisor, stated that the objective of this consultative process is to gather “opinions, suggestions, and approaches” on the proposed General Law on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and Afro-Mexicans.
Currently, 69 indigenous peoples and one Afro-Mexican group, alongside 16,738 communities, are registered in the National Catalog of Indigenous and Afro-Mexican Peoples and Communities (CANAPIA). The consultation process will be overseen by the United Nations and several other national and international organizations.
