The record holder is exactly 26 years and 330 days. The age is said to be something like 120 cat years, and current owner Vicki Green describes Flossie as “a wonderful cat”. – I knew from the start that Flossie was a special cat, she says to the BBC. But like many cats, Flossie has lived a wandering life with many owners. The story begins in December 1995, when a woman adopted the cat. At the time, Flossie roamed the streets freely – without an owner, according to Guinness World Records. Despite its age, the owner describes it as both playful and loving. Then the gradually aging cat got a new owner via the animal protection organization Cats Protection, which gives cats new homes. – We were shocked when we discovered that Flossie’s veterinary records showed that she was 27 years old, says Naomi Rosling in Cats Protection. The cat was deaf, had failing eyesight, but was still loving and playful when she was taken in by Vicki Green. – But I did not imagine that I would share my home with a Guinness World Records title holder, she says. So how old can a cat get? At least Flossie has a few years left before she catches up with Creme Puff, the oldest cat to have ever lived, according to Guinness World Records. Creme Puff lived to be 38 years and 3 days old and lived with his owner, Jake Perry, in Austin, Texas, USA. The cat was born in 1967 and died on August 6, 2005.
