This weekend, the Hoy No Circula Saturday program is back in action, implemented by the Environment Secretariat of Mexico City (SEDEMA). This initiative aims to regulate vehicular traffic in order to mitigate polluting emissions in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico.

Drivers who plan to venture out must check both the last digit of their license plate and the type of hologram they possess before hitting the road. These measures are not confined solely to the 16 boroughs of CDMX; they also extend to various peripheral areas in the State of Mexico. The areas under legal enforcement include:

  • Atizapan of Zaragoza
  • Coacalco de Berriozábal
  • Cuautitlan
  • Cuautitlán Izcalli
  • Chalco
  • Chicoloapan
  • Chimalhuacan
  • Ecatepec de Morelos
  • Huixquilucan
  • Ixtapaluca
  • La Paz
  • Naucalpan de Juárez
  • Nezahualcoyotl
  • Nicolas Romero
  • Tecámac
  • Tlalnepantla de Baz
  • Tultitlan
  • Chalco Valley

Thus, if your route includes passing through any of these locations, you must adhere to the Hoy No Circula Saturday regulations.

Which Vehicles and License Plates are Affected by Hoy No Circula Saturday?

The primary goal of this initiative is to decrease the number of cars on the streets to enhance air quality. Therefore, the restrictions vary depending on the assigned hologram, the final digit of the license plate, and whether the Saturday is classified as “even” or “odd” within the month.

It is important to note that the restrictions do not apply 24 hours a day. The designated hours for restrictions are from 05:00 to 22:00, allowing for unrestricted transit during nighttime and early morning hours, unless an environmental contingency plan is activated.

Specifics for June 6, 2026

For June 6, 2026, the calendar indicates that it is the first Saturday of the month, classified as an “odd week.” As such, vehicles with hologram 1 that have license plates ending in an odd digit are prohibited from circulating during the specified hours. These vehicles must remain parked until the restriction is lifted at 10:00 p.m.

Conversely, cars displaying a 0 or 00 hologram can circulate freely. Additionally, vehicles with a hologram 2 face an absolute restriction and cannot operate on any Saturday of the year.

Exceptions to the Regulations

While many vehicles face strict limitations, certain categories are exempt from these restrictions:

  • Electric, natural gas, or hybrid vehicles
  • Vehicles registered for individuals with disabilities
  • Vehicles dedicated to urban public transport (including funeral services)
  • Vehicles assigned to school or passenger transportation
  • Vehicles utilized for public security and civil protection

Failure to comply with Hoy No Circula guidelines can lead to substantial fines, ranging from 20 to 30 times the Measurement and Update Unit (UMA)—approximately 1,924.40 pesos at the minimum to 2,886.60 pesos at the maximum. Non-compliant vehicles may also be impounded.
