Bukele Inaugurates the New Rosales Hospital: A Milestone for El Salvador’s Healthcare
The newly inaugurated Rosales Hospital stands as the largest public medical project in El Salvador, officially opened by President Nayib Bukele. This significant event coincides with the seventh year of his administration, marking a pivotal moment for health care in the country.
Setting New Standards in Healthcare
During the inauguration, Bukele emphasized that the Hospital’s modern infrastructure and advanced services establish El Salvador as a regional benchmark for healthcare quality. He stated that the new facility allows Salvadorans to access state-of-the-art medical technology right at home, enhancing the accessibility and quality of healthcare services.
Rosales Hospital boasts the largest emergency service in the country, capable of managing a variety of medical cases, from general medicine to complex surgical interventions. Bukele proudly remarked that it represents “the most advanced hospital in Central America.”
A Balance of Tradition and Modernity
Located in San Salvador, the hospital features a new wing connected to its historic structure by an elevated walkway, merging classic and contemporary designs. The restoration of the original layout not only preserves its historical significance but also retains elements such as the original clock, illustrating a thoughtful approach to modern healthcare architecture.
Additionally, the facility has been equipped with energy-saving solar panels and advanced water treatment systems, reflecting a commitment to environmental responsibility.
Innovative Features and Technologies
The hospital includes nine operating rooms equipped to handle various medical specialties, along with the introduction of robotic surgery capabilities. This innovative technology allows surgeons to perform complex operations with enhanced precision and control.
Moreover, the medical offerings have expanded significantly, increasing from 32 to 47 specialties. Notably, it incorporates Central America’s first hybrid operating room, integrating advanced diagnostic tools such as 3 Tesla MRI and real-time imaging technologies.
Capacity and Functional Advancements
The facility is designed to serve up to 420 patients daily in its nephrology unit, which features 140 hemodialysis machines and an automated clinical laboratory capable of processing 2,600 tests per hour. This impressive capacity underscores the hospital’s potential to meet the healthcare needs of the Salvadoran populace effectively.
In the cardiovascular unit, stress tests are performed 25 times a day, while urology features the first public urodynamics room. The hospital also consolidates chemotherapy and palliative care under the hemato-oncology service, enhancing comprehensive support for cancer patients.
A Commitment to Quality and Empathy
Despite the advances in technology and infrastructure, Bukele emphasized that healthcare personnel must demonstrate empathy and compassion in patient care, ensuring that medical advancements translate into exceptional patient experiences.
Financed through loans from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the modernization process began in September 2022, setting a new benchmark for healthcare in El Salvador.
The new Rosales Hospital not only represents a significant leap in healthcare access and technology but also signifies El Salvador’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of its citizens, establishing itself as a leader in the region.
