Extensive Security Measures for the Match
The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City has announced a comprehensive security operation for the upcoming friendly soccer match between Mexico and Portugal. Scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Azteca Stadium, this event will see the deployment of over 4,613 police officers to ensure the safety of all attendees.
Technological Enhancements in Security
Part of the security strategy includes advanced technological resources. The SSC will utilize two drones from the Águila Unit, alongside a helicopter from the Cóndores group. To provide immediate assistance, four ambulances and two motorcycle ambulances from the Rescue and Medical Emergencies Squadron (ERUM) will also be available.
These measures aim to enhance surveillance inside and outside the stadium, ensuring rapid response in case of emergencies.
Internal Security Arrangements
Out of the total police presence, 2,000 auxiliary police officers will be assigned to internal security within the stadium, overseeing entrances, seating areas, hallways, and the field. Additionally, efforts will be made to deter ticket scalping, a common issue during large events.
Traffic and Crowd Management
The SSC has also established traffic management measures. 800 traffic agents will be stationed at key locations, helping to facilitate vehicle flow and implementing traffic restrictions in areas surrounding the stadium.
Roads affected will include Tlalpan Road, Periférico Sur, Acoxpa Avenue, Santa Úrsula, and Tlalpan Viaduct. These road closures will begin at noon and will continue until the conclusion of the event.
Safety Measures in the Zócalo
In the Zócalo area, where giant screens will display the match, 2,855 police officers will be deployed to manage the expected influx of fans. This includes enhanced surveillance, access control, and ongoing monitoring to ensure public safety.
Safety Tips for Attendees
Authorities encourage fans attending the match, whether at the stadium or in the Zócalo, to follow specific safety guidelines. Key recommendations include:
- Avoid bringing dangerous items.
- Adhere to security personnel’s instructions.
- Familiarize themselves with emergency exits.
- Leave venues in an orderly manner after the event concludes.
Furthermore, the SSC emphasizes the importance of staying informed through official channels. Fans are encouraged to utilize digital tools like the “My Police” app for emergency assistance, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience during this much-anticipated event.
