Agreement to stop the war in Tigray – Latest news – news

2 November 2022 at 17:18 Ethiopia: Agreement to stop the war in Tigray Ethiopia’s government and the authorities in the Tigray province have agreed to stop the fighting, the African Union (AU) says. The AU has since Tuesday last week led the negotiations between the two warring parties. On Wednesday, the union could report a breakthrough when it was agreed to stop the games. The war has lasted for two years and led to an enormous humanitarian crisis for the civilian population of Tigray. Thousands of people have lost their lives in the fighting, and millions more have had to flee their homes. Several hundred thousand are threatened by a famine. Ethiopian government forces have recently taken control of several towns in the northern province. Eritrean forces have been fighting side by side with the Ethiopian government forces, but Eritrea was not involved in the negotiations. Neither were regional forces allied with the Ethiopian army. It is unclear whether these will follow the peace agreement that has been concluded. A representative from the delegation from Tigray says that they have had to make painful concessions, but that it was necessary to build trust between the parties.
