27 October 2022 at 13:06 UN: The world’s climate plans are heading towards 2.6 degrees of warming This is what emerges from the review that the UN Environment Program (UNEP) has made of the plans for cuts in CO₂ emissions that the world’s countries have put forward. 2.6 degrees of warming is far above the 1.5 degrees that is the target in the Paris Agreement. – Obligations to net zero emissions are worth nothing without the plans, guidelines and actions to ensure that this happens, says UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The report to UNEP looks at the plans for cuts that the countries have put forward and calculates their consequences. UNEP does not look at whether the plans are realistic or whether the countries actually follow them. – The climate report from the UN Environment Program shows that global greenhouse gas emissions are being cut at a much too slow pace. The world needs rapid and deep emission reductions. This applies in particular to some of the large emitting countries. This is what climate minister Espen Barth Eide says in a comment.
