The Oath Ceremony: A Day of Tumultuous Drama

The oath of deputies that they will assume on December 10 was marked by shouting right from its initiation. Prior to this special session, security personnel blocked the halls of Congress to greet the arrival of President Javier Milei, who appeared accompanied by his sister, Karina Milei, along with key members of his administration, including chief of staff Manuel Adorni and several ministers.

This generated unrest among legislators who were blocked from access to elevators reserved for government officials.

Explosive Reactions

Milei’s entrance ignited cheers from the LLA block chanting “President, President,” with applause ringing towards libertarian deputies. However, this moment of camaraderie quickly spiraled into verbal conflicts. Peronist deputy Aldo Leiva leaped from his seat to confront Milei, declaring, “President, the Homeland is not for sale,” prompting chants from both sides.

Contentious Encounters and “Going to Take a Bath”

The tensions escalated further with the leftist deputies Nicolás del Caño and Romina del Pla leading the oath-taking process. Lilia Lemoine, positioned nearby, began to provoke members of the opposition, leading to her being directed a sharp retort: “Go take a bath,” which sparked outrage from Del Caño.

The atmosphere intensified as further disputes erupted between Lemoine and Marita Velázquez, illustrating the session’s underlying tension. Various legislators made their oaths under the banner of “the freedom of Cristina Kirchner,” echoing broader political conflicts.

Identity and Symbolism in Political Rhetoric

Juan Grabois emerged as a significant figure during the session. His theatrical gestures, including raising his left arm reminiscent of The Hunger Games, and his provocative antics toward Milei’s box left a lasting impression. These actions were loaded with symbolic meaning, calling attention to the political climate and rivalries shaping current Argentine politics.

This politically charged atmosphere was reflective of broader divisions within Argentine society, showcasing deep-rooted ideological conflict that will likely persist in future legislative sessions.

The Coalescing of Political Forces

The libertarian bloc demonstrated significant organization during the session. They displayed solidarity, preparing for their assignments meticulously, indicating strong cohesion among the 95 legislators—a significant force that now overshadows Peronism.

This session underscored the competitive nature of current Argentine politics, where public displays and dramatic exchanges are becoming integral to the legislative process.
