– We received many emergency calls from the same place at 21.15 telling us that shots had been fired outside. When we arrived at the scene, we found an injured person, says Gjermund Stokkeli, operations manager in the Oslo police district. He says many people were at the scene and that the police came to an unclear and chaotic situation. – As of now, we have one adult injured, most likely shot. We are looking for one or more perpetrators, says the operations manager. Broad investigation He says it is far too early to say who the perpetrator is. – We are working widely and have blocked off a large area, we are trying to get control of witnesses up there. We have patrols looking for possible perpetrators. We have started a broad investigation, says Stokkeli. The police have cordoned off a large area around the crime scene, where they are looking for shell casings or other technical traces. The police had previously received information that another person had been injured. – We have now checked that out. Only one person is injured. Shot in the upper body Operations leader at the scene, Steinar Bjerke, says a little after 10 pm that there is a young man who is seriously injured, and that he was examined by the police before he was taken to hospital. – He is examined by us before he is sent by ambulance to Ullevål. He has been shot in the torso, presumably with a handgun. The police take the incident very seriously. Bjerke continues: – We have secured several witnesses and cordoned off a larger area to find the specific crime scene. The police want information from anyone who may have seen something in the area when the shots fell. – There is talk of several people who were involved, but I don’t have an overview of how many yet. We’ll get back to that when we’ve spoken to more witnesses. He says the police will work on the case throughout the night. – Technical investigations are now being carried out on site. It will take a few hours. Witness: – Run for life Eirik Mosveen, who is a daily political editor at Avisa Oslo, was nearby when it happened. He was on his way to the subway with his 80-year-old courage when he heard a loud sound – I’m walking across Tøyen torg, when I hear the sound of a chair being thrown or something like that. I see a person running out right in front of us. He picks up what looks like a gun and takes a charging grip, says Mosveen. He drags his mother to the wall, as he perceives that the man is pointing the weapon in their direction. – We happen to be right in the firing line. Two or three people come out and confront the person who came out first, says Mosveen. – Then we hear shots being fired. We see the first person who came running out running from the scene towards the road. He ran for his life. – He is examined by us before he is sent by ambulance to Ullevål. He has been shot in the upper body, probably with a handgun. We have secured several witnesses and cordoned off a larger area to find the specific crime scene. The victim is a young man, I can’t say anything more than that now, other than that he is seriously injured. The police are interviewing witnesses at the scene.
