The missile is said to have fallen into the Pacific Ocean, outside Japan’s economic zone, some 3,000 kilometers away. When the missile flew over Japan early Tuesday morning local time, residents were asked to seek refuge in solid buildings or go to shelters, according to broadcaster NHK. Several high-speed trains were ordered to stop, and air traffic was warned. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida says that the repeated launches of ballistic missiles are an unacceptable act of violence on the part of North Korea. He calls it “a barbaric act”, according to Reuters. This is the 23rd test launch from North Korea so far this year, and the 7th to occur over Japan, according to Japan’s Defense Ministry. According to the Kyodo news agency, Kishida has summoned the Japanese Security Council to an emergency meeting.
